Silvercar Q7. Notwithstanding JST's hatred for it, it's a pleasant enough thing to drive in basically a straight line down the highway.
It's not nearly as pleasing in around town driving, but that doesn't matter so much. Surprisingly, my complaint about the 2.0T is more about the noise and less about the power. If it just didn't sound like turbo 4 banger, it would be fine. It's less of a factor in the A4 and Q5, presumably because the Q7 just loads it more.

Because spending $2k to put 6,000 miles on someone else’s car is a no brainer vs. what it would cost to drive, say, the E90 M3. Also because we don’t really own any vehicles that would be great for a drive that long, much less a drive that long with two dogs in the car. The Q7 is a fairly perfect vehicle for this trip. And it’s a vehicle that I would hate to own.

Oh yes I do hate the Q7. I am a big fan of Silvercar, though, especially for longer rentals. And renting the Q7 seems like the right call.
Edit—oh I just went back and reread my review of the Q7. I was very angry at that thing. And the one I drove was a 3.0T; can’t believe they’re sticking the 2 liter in that now. Last edited by JST; 01-24-2021 at 09:33 PM. |

We did a Silvercar rental for a one way drive to Utah last year. (Don't ask.)
It was a Q5, which was inoffensive. But the Silvercar rental experience was excellent. And very competitively priced. We would have paid way more even using highly discounted corporate rates to rent a mediocre crossover from National or Avis. |

I wish we had Silvercar in ATL. It’s odd that we don’t, really.
