(Today’s offer would have been $19,507, a new high water mark.)

FWIW, other similar cars have come and gone in Carvana’s listings at similar pricing/miles. I have continued checking sporadically to see what their offers would be over time (weird that they let you generate an offer on the same VIN of a car they have listed which lets you clearly see what the markup, less whatever else they put into it) and it held at just over $19k throughout August. Midway through September it dropped to mid $18s.

Today, it’s $17400.

That makes me feel like I did the right thing at the right time and got lucky selling at very close to its peak value. As of now, I think it positions me to be ahead once I finally buy something...and I’m sitting on cash instead of a payment in the meantime, so even better,

It’s got me thinking about the new and used car markets in genera. Might this portend an end to the craziness? Is the used car supply sufficient and mobile enough to meet current demand? Used retail pricing is obscene. Used 2019 Camaro SS 1LEs have asking prices higher than new 2020 equivalent versions.

In new cars, Chevy increased the consumer rebate on 20 Camaros from $1500 to $1750 from September to October and added a $1000 consumer rebate on 21s for October. Still not much supply, but cars seem to be lasting longer on lots once they arrive (the one I was talking about is still available) and more cars are in transit now than at any earlier point.

I don’t know...

Quite possibly we’re seeing an inflection point. Plus the 2021s are coming to dealers, so everything suddenly got a model year older...

The 21 vs 20 thing doesn’t matter much for the Camaro. #1, changes are super minor and #2, GM production had not yet caught up with strike impacts when the COVID shutdowns started. Still seems to be a sellers market on these new cars.

Other cars from other manufacturers, yeah, I think things are moving in a more buyer friendly direction.

The preowned market is still madness and you’re a wiser person to not be paying an artificial premium. There are some serious dogs out there still asking ridiculous money. I keep watching to see if the insanity will end too.

It hasn’t yet for these cars.

This is sitting at my local GM dealer.

I already have an appointment Tuesday for a brake recall on my GMC, will see if I can take it for a test drive
