If you are serious about a VW, I recommend a 2019, there are leftovers out there for good prices and the 6/72 warranty cannot be beat. I admit I think the TDI (definitely pre-fix and likely post-fix), is a better engine than the 1.8T. But that doesn't make up for the rest of wear & tear.

If the sportwagen really is $19k+tax, that's kind of an unbeatable price for a new awd wagon with a manual and a 6/72 warranty. We wanted an exterior in a real color, non-cloth seats and a few other goodies that the base Alltrack comes with (larger tank). That would be in the $23k range for a similar deal.

Seems like an awesome deal price wise.

I have always told myself I'd never get another white car, but no way would I want a white/light interior. How will that stay clean with a teenager and dog????

True indeed. Although white exterior is pretty suited to this climate.

Edit: And there are such things as seat covers...

This one, also local to me, is a good bit more expensive and tricked out--an Alltrack. Plus, it has the sunroof you advise against. With a convertible in the fleet, I don't feel the necessity of a sunroom. Plus, I may end up with a house that has only covered room for one car and the convertible would surely get that.

I did teach my son who was my first child to get his license how to drive a manual but his first car was an Automatic (actually a DCT)
Teach them to drive a manual when they first get their learners permit and it's second nature by the time they're driving on their own. I mean, they might "worry about how to drive a manual" if you teach them to worry about driving a manual. But if you teach them like you teach to check their mirrors and look both ways, it's just part of the gig.

You'll still have the Boxster. What's the problem?

I meant to drive every day; I’m generous but not that generous.

I see absolutely no reason for a kid to learn how to drive a manual in 2020

(unless it's to drive the car they're going to be driving regularly)

Because making the kid drive manual means that they will text and drive less and also virtually guarantees that they won’t be lending the car out.
