Rear? noise in e46 m3
I took it in for an oil change and while it's at the shop, complained about an occasional noise. It happens more often when cold, first started. If you make a slow turn near full steering lock, it seems to emanate from the inside turn rear. Like a rumble or a grind.. Not that loud or noticeable and goes away quickly. Candidates:
- diff low on fluid? - something wrong on rear axles or bearings - handbrake was tightened last year, maybe it's affecting? I notice when I pull it on a steep hill, the car seems to get diagonally loaded. - something stupid like a stuck branch/gravel behind the brake dust cover... We will see. I didn't have time to pull all wheels off and re-torque them to proper spec before taking it to the shop. Wish I'd done that. |

Diff fluid. BMW has a special fluid for this.
