Rental Car Reviews

Not sure if we have a thread already for this? I think they are just spread across threads so starting this.

I got an Infiniti Q80 from Avis to drive from Las Vegas to San Diego. It was pre-face lift version.

Pros:
-Not much, I guess flooring the pedal made some decent V8 noises.
-Guess gas mileage was ok for big SUV with big V8, seemed to get about ~18MPG. Computer was saying 21.5mpg though. 78mph with AC going

Cons:
-Big SUV with big V8 but throttle tuning was very slow for I assume fuel economy so did not feel that fast. Ok if you gave it a lot of gas.
-A lot of electric nannies going off, had to turn of the steering assist. Guess just a common new car thing.
-Had to do a lot of multi point turns to get out of parking spaces, guess a big car thing.
-tons of shudder when hitting bumps. I assume body on frame issues but do not have the same issues in 4runner.

summary:
Not sure why anyone would buy one Nissan Patrol based so in theory a good off-roader/overlander but the shuddering did not give me confidence.

Having driven some Nissan V8s over the years, I'm guessing that they've been slowing up the throttle response over time.

The 2006 Titan had the pedal response of a Sentra. AKA, the pedal was an on/off switch with nearly no in between. Between the decently peppy V8, pickup truck weight distribution, and no traction control (I think), that thing was genuinely scary in the wet. The 2011 Armada was dialed back a fair bit. Still a little jumpy, but not scary. It also has traction control.

yeah- it's definitely bizarre that they still sell them here. Not really sure what this is meant to do different/better than various other BoF SUVs out there. But I suppose you could say that about the whole Infiniti lineup
