Explain this NAV behavior
Locals know the ICC - MD Rt 200. It is a toll highway completed about a year and a half ago. I commute on it daily.
I have now driven a total of two one-way trips on it in the Golf R - one coming home from the dealer right after I bought the car on Saturday and the other my morning commute this morning. On Saturday, all detail regarding the ICC was displayed on the NAV including speed limit info. This morning, I was driving through fields and forests - but the cross streets and streams I passed over/under were all there. How can a road disappear from the database? I mean, it's either current or outdated. But how can it flip from one to the other? If this is relevant (probably not) I was not actually having it navigate on either trip - just display the map. |

Once you got off that highway, did the map show you on the road again?
My MCS NAV antenna is totally screwed up. It thinks it knows where I am, but doesn't. I think it's just been using dead reckoning for months, and the inaccuracies over time have added up to being several miles off. Just wondering if you might have a similar situation.

It showed the road for TD a few days ago when he was headed in one direction, but not today when he heads in the other...although it still displayed the car where it was. That seems weird. Only thing I can think of is that there's some kind of directional screwup? It would explain the behavior, but still be weird.

Stupid question, but in the first instance were you on the older part of the road that existed west of Norbeck in ~2010? There was a period of time where my iPhone (old one with google maps) knew about that part of the road but not the newer I-95 to norbeck-ish portion, even though both portions were complete.

A reboot might help. You never know - and you get to do it at least twice a trip.

I am surprised that you even got the NAV.

Some Navs have a "base map" that is not quite up to date or up to speed. Updated later maps are loaded on start up. So if the newer, more comprehensive maps don't load for some reason, you are left with the base maps.
I have seen this a couple of times on various Garmins. Either a restart, or it is possible to have dumped the updated maps.
