Anyone buy or going to buy anything new ... what are you thinking

I haven't posted in a while and I know you guys are a 'select' group but what more fun for car guys then to talk about what you recently bought or are thinking of buying ...

Not much on my end, we got an MB GL450 a few months back, the vette is getting some new toys (wheels and stuff) and the 335 is a 2yr lease due back in 5 months ... who knows what's next but it might be that hot new VW CC, the new Audi A4 (though it needs some more HP) or the Audi S5 but my best guess is another 335 for 2 more yrs ... damn BMW for putting such a freakin fast car that is sooo hard to replace ...

How about you, I see a lot of new auto blog threads (when i click 'new posts') but there has be some new cars out there you guys want ...

335 gone in favor of an M3. Lease deals on leftover '08s were too good to pass up.

At the dealer today, an 08 M3 vert, no money down - 699 a month for 36 months - or 0.9 percent.

Not sure if that's a relatively good deal or not (600 plus for any car seems horrid to me), but it was a convertible and it had a lot of options, including buttery soft leather.

Also on the lot were a handful of facelifted E90's - it looks good, but not different enough from the 08's, of which there were MANY!! It's a buyer's paradise.

The 1 series was there, it looks good in a vert, in fact, I quite like the 135i verts.

Lots and lots of cars......

Ed

I agree. I like the new E90 look better, especially the pronounced power dome on the hood. But overall the front facia still reeks. They nipped and tucked it when it needed massive reconstructive surgery imo.

Yeah, the vert doesn't reek (and I'm probably alone here when I say I'd take one over the E92 any day of the week), but I'm still partial to the coupe. If it didn't have the infernal RFT's there might actually be one in the stable.

The M3 rates are tempting, but I still have a mental block about buying anything over 45K let alone 60K.

Cosmetically, nobody makes better looking vehicles than GM right now. I like the looks of the new Malibu, the G8 (& GXP if it ever is released for public consumption), and the CTS line-up.

And yes, Alan, VW is just about the most exciting Teutonic company these days. I can't sing enough praises about my R32. So it might be better with a stick. Big deal. Its other virtues put that ill easily to rest.

The new Audi's are nice, but I just don't think their suspension is tuned enough towards the fun quotient. Too much slop in the steering, too. They need to take the R32's setup and tweak it to accommodate its slightly heavier Audi brethren.

But all-in-all I'm disappointed with the paucity of vehicles that turn me on.

The entire auto market is definitely on a down-turn, and for more reasons than just one.

Sold the e46 330i (thanks to help from TD) in favor of an e70 X5 sport (with third row). A whole new universe of driving, that's for sure...But, perhaps we'll add a Z2 down the road to make us feel human again.

Meanwhile, the 530xiT wagon is now the "fun" car--because it actually is a car. I'm waiting for its terrible all seasons to wear out so I can put some good summers on her. We already have a spare winter set.
