I’ve always assumed that the Great Recession had a big impact on 987.2/997.2 colors; fewer cars built, I assume fewer cars ordered with more being ordered for dealer stock, and maybe a greater reluctance to buy cars in flashy colors even for those that were ordered.
I don’t have any data on that beyond the small number of total cars built, but it all makes sense.
