Speaking of low fluid warnings...

I've had the "Warning - Oil Level Low" message come on in my E39 about once a week for the last 6-8 weeks. Since I still have a dipstick, I checked almost every time and sure enough, th oil level was fine (right between the marks).

I was nearing a service anyway, so I didn't worry about taking the car in just to have that sensor checked. But the car went in this morning for scheduled service (and a couple other minor issues). My SA mentioned that the oil level sensor failure in E39s was fairly common and that there is a service bulletin calling them to be replaced with a newer part.

Which makes me wonder if BMW is going to be sorry they saved <5 Euros per car eliminating the dipstick from the engine...
