Maybe its time to break this off in a different thread, but how? Every time I've used a paddle shift it moves through each gear regardless of where I want it to end up.

As an example, over lunch I was coming up to a redlight at about 40mph in 4th gear. I put in the clutch to coast down to about 20mph and move the shift lever from 4 to 2 but left the clutch in while I continued to brake. The light changed and I was able to smoothly let the clutch out in 2nd and pull away. My passenger wasn't subjected to lengthy engine braking or multiple blip downshifts. I know this is a silly example, but just the first one that came to mind from an hour ago that would have annoyed me (or at least changed my driving habits) if I didn't have a real manual.
