Maybe there are better socket adapters today, but 13 years ago I butchered a 6" 3/8 extension. I cut the female end of with a hacksaw in a vice. This allowed the shaft to fit into the drill chuck, and the other end held the socket.

One thing I must point out, the extension cord I linked is not exactly what I have. Mine works fine, looks like new. But it is a 8 years old. In the link I posted it seems they have now molded a better finger hold to help unplug the cable. Mine doesn't have this. I have always used a bit of die-electric grease to help ease the plugging-unplugging. I'll include a few packs of this grease too.

Message me what town your Fastenal store is in, and I'll start it from this end
