No log book for me but a lot of the cars have a few different mpg indicators and I usually leave one on and don’t reset it from the moment I get the car. BMW even now has an option called ‘factory’ and it gives you the mpg and other stuff from the day the car left them … pretty cool.
I can attest to the fact that the onboard computer is a little off.

Our Sienna is consistently 0.2 mpg off. I hadn’t figured out my E46 yet, though I should.

It’s easy when you write down the odometer mileage, gallons used and are consistent in the filling up procedure (I stop at the second click of the nozzle and use the same Chevron stations whenever possible).
