The n52 was fine in an e90 330i, and even that car would be thought of as needing revs today. Sure in other lands with small engines, the n52 x5 will be more than fine. But in our great land with cheap torque, it will feel insufficient. I had an x5 with b58 loaner, it was quite fine; I didn't feel the v8 need.

I mean, how fast do you want to go around in an x5? It's not even fun, just competent. The x3 b58 might be a good choice if the size is sufficient and height a need... Don't know if it handles as tidily as a Macan, but if it's close than that engine would be a good match.
