My experience is the CPO inspection is a joke. You can ask for the list of items that were actually addressed (not the inspection sheet with the check boxes, but anything that was actually fixed, replaced, etc). The CPO warrant varies widely from brand to brand and ties you to a dealer as opposed to a good indy shop.

I've found it better to find a well priced used car, have a PPI and get a good (lots of reviews on who is and isn't reputable) aftermarket warranty (if you want to minimize risk) that clearly defines what is covered.
