Yeah, I suspect you're right about the shop bit, though I don't think that having something like that commissioned makes a lick of sense.
Everything is worth whatever someone will pay for it. Here, I really didn't see a basis for paying more than what a stock, low mile M5 would go for, especially since there have been a couple of similar cars sold in the past for decent but not silly money.
This seemed to be a confluence of impeccable presentation, a bunch of enthusiastic vouchers and testimonials, and internet stardom--and maybe just a couple of the right buyers in the room.
I would have guessed mid-high 40s at the top end.
