It's just the new transmissions. Both the e61 and e46 automatics were very smooth from launch. Sport mode in the e46 still allows for all gears, in the e61 it did block out 6 (totally agree, why the F would I want that). The 8sp shifts better once underway, but the ability to start from a stop is appalling. It's the single biggest reason we're considering replacing it.
