Well, the reason people are offended is because Volvo is doing this to make a point—it’s specifically not about 112 mph on either side. Volvo is using mandatory speed caps to highlight the danger of speeding and (implicitly, by way of reference to the 3 point belt example) call for regulatory imposition of speed caps on cars. 112 mph is a shot across the bow, and is intended to be such.
People are reacting to the message, not the physical speed limiter. Which is completely fair, because the message is what Volvo is trying to send.
