I think all young drivers have that issue (riding too close to the right). My son has had his share of new driver foybles. I think I posted earlier about 9 months ago, he clipped a parking bollard and dented the front fender of the 2009 X3 that he drives. We went to a junkyard, pulled a 'closely' matching fender of generally the same color and he replaced it on the car himself.

Just recently he got his first speeding ticket. Officially he was going 83 in a 55 (which honestly is keeping up with traffic on this particular road in our area). That infraction would have been a 3 month suspension of his license. Luckily he got a cop that was benevolent, and he handled the situation maturely. Cop wrote him up for 60 in a 55, no points, no insurance issues. He had just finished digging and installing french drains and had earned $150 for it. That came out of his bank account to cover the ticket and he lost the car for 3 weeks. Hopefully he learned a lesson. Overall he drives well, but he is a 17yr old kid. We use him as a DD on occasion.
