I don't know if this was updated along the way, but you can "write" on the iDrive knob. I still hate it, but the voice recognition works very well. The M3 also has a digital speedo and, in my case, HUD. But yes, the analog speedo is dumb. More useful than on the 997TT, but that was a joke.
