I think it's perfectly reasonable to want to have a car that you yourself (as it's primary driver) find attractive. I like looking back as I walk away from my car in a parking lot to catch another view of it. Why drive a car you don't like to look at? I do not like the look of the WRX or Evo.
And, while it's not a critical concern, image does play into things. I have said I drive a BMW in spite of it's image and it's true. I just can't look past the ricer stereotype associated with the WRX and Evo. I would never buy a car because of it's image but, in some cases, I will avoid a car for that reason.
