Any dealer can run a vehicle history report, which will either say "no open campaigns" if no recalls are pending, or a list of them if there are. I think this now happens when they wave the key over the reader, which gives the system your VIN. Dealers normally print this out and attach it to the work ticket, so the trick is to ask them to save it for you. Back in the day, there were people over at the 'fest that would run one for you, but I haven't been there in ages. Unless everyone using my defect code lookup tool is a dealer, some people must still be getting them.

The campaign info (and everything else available outside the BMW dealer net) is available at BMW TIS EPA, but that's a paid service (daily / monthly / yearly for $25 / $250 / $2500).
