It is with great sadness that we announce the death of the legendary engineer Hans Mezger, who died yesterday, June 10, at the age of 90. Porsche owes him not only the air-cooled, six-cylinder boxer engine of the 911 but also the overall design of the 917 including its twelve-cylinder motor.
The TAG Turbo Formula One engine was also his creation. For more than three decades, Hans Mezger was responsible for Porsche's most successful racing cars and engines and his innovations for our production sports cars will never be forgotten. The thoughts of everyone at Porsche are with his family.
