The X5 has no appeal for me--never has. The 4.6is (which is the only X5 I've ever really driven in anger) is fast, but it's big, top-heavy, and handles like shit compared to a well-engineered, similarly heavy and spacious car.

if i NEEDED an SUV, i'd get a basic yukon or something that would be gutsy enough to tow a 3000lb-ish brute of a track car. with ease up and down hills and mountains.

i still hate the x3 but the x5 is something i've gotten used to seeing around.
Exactly.

For any buyer, either a full-blown truck SUV or a simple station wagon would better meet their needs.

The X line is pure marketing pandering to badge-buying lemmings (not you, though).
