The 340i did well in its first trip. 900 miles, Vermont & a bit of Quebec... Not deep snow, but lots of slush and icy conditions. Barely felt it with blizzaks, though a muddy road was harder. It's officially the dirtiest car in NJ, one of my neighbors asked if we did Paris-Dakar in it, it's so mud/salt covered (picture is halfway through the trip, not fully dirty). Averaged 26.5-27 on the way up and 28.5 on the return.. Not the 5er's big tank, but 300+ mi fill-ups are easy, the longest one was at 355mi.

It's a well balanced. Decent on the highway, I found myself opting for the 60mph VT roads (e.g. Rt 22) over the interstate. I can't see doing that in the 535i as much. The split-folding rear seat came in handy. Paper plates caused minor questioning at the borders... The usual, I ask a dealer to do my own DMV work, they almost never let me.
