Yes, surprisingly well. Coming from the e61 to the x5 is a minor drop in acceleration, but work it a bit you can out accelerate most of the cars in a merge lane. It will also sit happily at 90mph and cruise for 200 miles without breaking a sweat. I guess it depends on what you’re coming from and to some extent it’s all relative to what your baseline is. A 6-cyl X5 isn’t that bad, but for me it felt bit strained. After having a few 335s, I felt like the turbo I6 got a little strained on a 5er and even more so on X5 given how much additional weight it’s carrying around. That being said, the V8 is overkill. I love our X5 M50 but it doesn’t need this much power. I’d probably be happy with something in the middle.
