Yeah, it's really dumb. My car has "BMW Assist" fitted, which I probably wouldn't have ordered (though I *really* dig having Bluetooth integration with my cellphone). When I looked at the list of offered services, I couldn't even be bothered to drive to the dealer to sign up for my year-long free subscription. I don't see any value add for this service, since I already own a cellphone and have a phonebook to use to look up the number of the local BMW dealer.
XM/Nav real-time traffic monitoring? Hell, yes (though BMW doesn't offer this). Satellite radio? Bet your ass (though BMW's solution is very kludgy compared with, e.g., VW's, at least they offer *some* factory integration, unlike Subaru). But "Assist" and OnStar--I just don't see the point.
