Revisited the 996 Turbo

Drove one today. Black/black. <30,000 miles.

Pretty amazing shape for a 15 year old car --the exterior had minor kinds of scratches (from keys perhaps or whatever). Interior looked like it was just out of the showroom.

Any modifications? Just a short shifter.

The car is amazing. It's so fast. And fluid. There is maybe some lag? Not super noticeable. And then the boost piles on quickly past 3500rpms. Like the Hand of God and stuff goes flying in the car and you can stay pinned in your seat until the next shift --that kind of fast. Got some country road driving in. And some nice highway driving.

The brake pedal feel is super solid and firm. The clutch has a high effort pedal, but easy engagement point. No flywheel chatter. The steering is laudable. Direct and connected with the chassis.

Holy Cow.

I got back into the M3 and that engine is still world class. It's just that the rest of the car feels high-waisted. Like the car's center of gravity is about 2 feet higher. Not as cohesive. The S65 sounds nastier, of course. But cammier too. The M3 probably has 220-250 pounds on the 996 Turbo? And you can feel it.
