I don't think the 3 is a good idea for me right now. That or a similar comparable electric car 3-5 years later is where it feels like it will best fit.

On the Camaro vs C7 question...

The 1SS 1LE I drove Saturday is owned by a good friend that also owns a C7GS. Both of the cars are also the second examples of them he's owned...the first being configured differently. He also has a lot of high level competition and track time with these and other cars, as well as a long history of winning competitive driving events, teaching a lot of people how to drive competitively and makes his living selling parts and setting cars up to win.

On top of all that, he has some decent insight into what makes clyde's brain tick dating back about 17 years now.

Long winded way of saying that he knows what he's talking about (even when he's wrong) and communicating what I need to hear at times when I need to hear it, particularly WRT cars. I trust his opinion.

We spent some time talking about the differences between the Camaro and Corvette as competition cars and as daily drivers. He thinks the 6th gen Camaro is a better platform than the C7 even if the C7 is "faster."

He uses the term "Porschelike" a lot and thinks it's more rewarding to drive than the C7. Not much and very subtle, but still. The different driving modes allow for better configuration because you can change steering, shock, throttle, traction, stability, and exhaust setting independently of each other in the Camaro, but they're mostly linked in the Corvette. He thinks the Camaro's build quality is better ("If I take the Vette through car wash," points to A-pillar/roof joint, "drip, drip, drip for a minute. And, you know, the 'C' in 'Corvette' stills stands for 'creak.'" He was also pretty happy with how well the structure held up when his first one met its early end.

OTOH, he thinks the Corvette is easier to live with in some ways. The hatch area is more versatile/easier than the Camaro's trunk. He's not scared shitless every time he backs out of a parking spot with SUVs on either side. Rear quarter visibility is better on the road. But, then again, it's lower and which makes it just enough more of a pain to get in/out when back issues are acting up.

Driving wise, he seemed to think the Camaro is "better." Daily driving wise, he was more non-committal in a "which parts matter more to you?" kind of way.

Honestly, the conversation pushed me more towards a Camaro 2SS 1LE than anything. The 2SS basically adds bells and whistles over the 1SS in what I think is an overpriced package for what you get. $5k for heated/ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, fancy rear mirror/camera thing, auto dimming mirrors, Bose, color interior LED mood lighting, dual zone climate, homelink, blind spot warning, rear park assist.

I would value the heated seats, steering wheel, and auto-dimming mirrors, but not to the tune of $5k. With them, though, I'd be happier with the car.
