CBaTFL

Welcome to the Carumudgeons BaT Fantasy League.

This post is for the rules and may be updated in the future. They will be few and simple to start and hopefully stay that way, but who knows.

This is just for fun. For us.

Rules
  1. Selections will be made by the previous week's winner, their designee, or whoever jumps in first to fill the void in the selection posting window.
  2. Selection posting window will be from Saturday 10:00am ET through Sunday 5:00pm ET.
  3. Cars selected for posting must have scheduled ending times between Thursday 10:00am ET and Friday 11:59pm ET.
  4. No more than 20% of selected cars may be from the same manufacturer.
  5. Predicted prices must be posted by Monday 11:59pm PT. Once predictions are posted, they may be edited until Monday at 11:59pm PT.
  6. Scores will be based on the percentage difference (under or over) between predicted and hammer prices with the formula: =ABS((Hammer Price-Guess)/(Hammer Price))
  7. Smallest percentage difference averaged by participant wins.

Edits
11/27/21 1:37pm: Clarified that predicted prices may be edited until Monday at 10:00am ET.
12/4/21 10:06am: Specified that percentage differences will be averaged by participant at 10:09am ET.
1/3/21 11:30am: Updated Predicted price posting deadline from Monday at 10:00am ET to 11:59pm PT.
1/16/22 4:26pm: Revised and added formula for percentage difference. Rounds 1-7 used =ABS((Hammer Price-Guess)/((Hammer Price+Guess)/2)). Beginning Round 8, formula is: =ABS((Hammer Price-Guess)/(Hammer Price))

Fantastic work Clyde. Thanks for kicking it off. Rules are good. One question: are we doing BaT only, or if we find cool things on other auction sites that fit the rules, can we post them?

I'd rather keep it to BaT as it's more widely understood how bidding will play out compared to competitor and marque specific sites.

My initial predictions

Car 1 (911 Safari): $150000
Car 2 (Hammond Roadster): $12000
Car 3 (Buck Wagon): $9000
Car 4 (911 S4 that intrigues me much more than it should): $35000
Car 5 (1963 Corvette): $185000

Josh (PA) 11-27-2021 06:32 PM

SWAG:
Car 1: $125,000 - probably low because 911R gets good money.
Car 2: $32,500 - no idea, but people pay dumb money on BAT
Car 3: $24,250 - same as above
Car 4: $47,800 - its an auto but the seller posted 258 pictures
Car 5: $122,750 - I have no idea what this is worth and what it might go for.

None of these cars make any sense to me.

1. $188,000 but why would anyone pay it
2. $9000
3. $12500
4. $35000 (auto and high miles)
5. $150,000

All of the cars have some kind easily findable comps on BaT (even the Hammond Roadster since it was sold once before on BaT) to provide a reference point.

Yes for this first round I chose not to look at comps. We’ll see how close I could get organically.

I did the same. It will be interesting to see how close/far we are.
Interstingly, our totals so far Clyde: $391k, Josh: $352300, Josh: $394500... not a whole lot of spread
