I should just not be allowed near cars
 

I tried to flush the ST's brakes today. It did not go well.

I bought a Motive Power Bleeder a while ago and finally tried using it. It didn't leak on the first pressure test. Can't say the same once I'd put in some fresh Motul and got to work.

Right rear was partly flushed when I found it leaking from the reservoir connection. I decided to toss in the towel and drop it off with a guy tomorrow morning. Given how the day had gone to that point, I'm certain death, dismemberment, fire, famine and that sort of stuff would have taken place had I not stopped.

And I'm not sure, but the right rear caliper might be leaking a little now. After test drive with some hard stops, it was wet around the nipple. Dried it all off and took another short drive. It was wet again, but much less so. Hoping it was just a little fluid left in the nipple.

And then there was the car nearly falling off the jack when getting it on stands.

And. And. And.

I really liked my Power Bleeder until I tried to jury-rig it to use on a car for which I didn't have a tightly fitting cap. I trashed the whole goddamn thing right after that mess...probably overkill, but it prevented me from just burning the car to the ground out of spite.

Nasty cleanup too. Not as nasty as spent gear oil, but brake fluid is definitely nasty.

That's the thing, I don't know for sure how much spilled/leaked. Don't think there was much I didn't see and clean up, but don't know without take off the underteay, bu I was afraid of what else might happen or what I might find.

In the goof news department, just went for a short drive. Everything around the nipple was dry when I left and still dry when I returned.

When I tested, I only had it pressurized dry for a short time. Maybe I should have waited a couple minutes to see if it lost pressure. :dunno:

I bet I could swap an engine, no problem. Replace an air filter alone? I'll come down with Ebola.

I swapped a steering wheel and slighltly broke the airbag plug once. :eek: A bit of solder and good to go, but it took half a day including radio shack trips.

I know your pain. Have done head gasket and clutch jobs in the past, no problem. But the simple stuff often seems to turn into big messes. Especially simple oil changes.

I use the "dry method" with the Motive power bleeder. Less waste and easier clean-up. Sure it takes longer, but still.
