“Data”???

The forces acting upon used car market as a whole right now are so massive and distorting here’s nothing to find that’s model specific in niche cars like these. It’s like trying to measure the difference pouring in the Olympic pool sized volume of water before and after pouring in a Yeti cooler’s worth of melted ice.

Then add the super limited C8 production capacity, that many dealers are now selling MY22 allocations they hope to one day have if they’re not driven out of business long before that, etc.

Hotter C8 models that are sure to follow are going to make people paying ridiculous sums for existing, but poorly built from suspect materials, C8 examples quite unhappy in the next year or two.

I think my complaints are largely addressed with better wheels and an aftermarket exhaust. The rumors about the Z06 make it seem like it'll be really impressive, but the base C8 is already a lot more than I'm willing to spend on a car, so... :dunno:

The limited C8 supply has driven the ZL1 market crazy.

I watch these cars like a hawk and they don’t sit for long. I track them daily. Like any other quant nerd.

And when I ask Chevy dealers, it’s because guys would rather go with something like a ZL1 than try to pay DMA on any unclaimed C8s.

I think this is in addition to any COVID19 weirdness.

C8 is brand new and before COVID happened, it was well known that Chevy wouldn’t be able to build enough to satisfy initial demand until early/mid 21 at the earliest. 6th Gen ZL1 has been available since the 2017 model year.

New and used ZL1 pricing has tracked pretty steady with 4 bangers, SSs, and the market at large for the past year. I’ve been paying pretty close attention with an embarrassingly detailed spreadsheet since long before you expressed any interest in the ZL1, but the ZL1 tracking was ancillary, not my central focus.

I can’t categorically say your conclusion is wrong, but I’ve seen nothing that suggests it’s correct. :dunno:

I’m not one to make the connection. Too focused on ZL1s.

The local Chevy dealers have told me they’re seeing crazy demand on the ZL1s used or new right now. Which was my pain point.

I don’t have any survey data for you. Just what the GMs of the dealerships think they’re seeing.

Went back to the same event this year; will post some pics later. The C8 guy from last year had ditched the C8 for a GT350, which he said was a lot more fun. There was a nice Camaro SS 1LE that seemed basically like a blue version of Clyde’s car, which was pretty fast.

There was a rad Audi RS6 avant that — despite its ceramic brakes — went into limp mode after a couple of laps each session.

Ferraris remain really fast in a straight line. Ferrari drivers remain not as fast in corners.

My car was down a minimum of 150 hp on basically everything else there, other than one lone Miata. I couldn’t really hang with anything even moderately well driven, especially the couple of 911 Turbo Ss that were there. I did stick pretty well with a 992 Carrera 4S, but it was a struggle.

That said, the Öhlins are fucking amazing. I love them so much. Setting them to nearly full stiff really eliminated the slop and made the car so much easier to fling on the track.

Pro tip, though: do not try and readjust them right after you come in. Snaking your hand up next to the exhaust is…not wise, and the suspension bits themselves back there are hotter than hell.

SUPER FUN!!

Is that an E30 with an S54?

PS - I want those frozen gold 763 rims on that blue M2!

Yes on E30; was a nicely set up car.

Nice! Glad you had fun and hearing the Ohlins are working out. IIRC, it was last year's event that got you to change to them?

Talking out of my ass here, but that MPG figure seems awful high for a day's worth of track time. A weekend's worth of autocross in the turbo Camaro would show about half of that. :dunno:
