If not for the manual windows and no a/c, hmm... Interior pics look newer and cleaner than the ones I had when they were new. Outside of blemish on the bumper below the diver side headlight, the exterior looks fantastic, too (save the unfortunate two-tone color combo)

It's been a long time since I drove a fox Mustang. I'd be interested in trying one, though I suspect they will not have aged well.

bren 03-06-2016 07:37 PM

I didn't realize they had a 5% buyer's premium.

Yep. Maxing out at $5,000.....

Fox Mustangs were horrible in the '80s, and they're horrible now.

Jeff_DML 03-07-2016 11:48 AM

I like the tartan seats:)

John V 03-08-2016 12:41 PM

Not BaT, but there is a 1995 RX-7 R2 on eBay motors (still - it's been listed a few times) with ~ 20,000 miles and they're asking $50k for it.

There were very few 1995 R2s sold in the USA. Somewhere around 50 of them. This one is silver - it's one of 16 made.

I think they're a bit ahead of the market on this one, by about 15 grand, based on what has sold on the forums.

I was always way more interested in the 95 M-Sport E34 then the E34 M5.

This one is beautiful.

that is sweet, lover the M-rain-sh retro cloth interior.

The front hood gap seems kind of large?

Seems to have all of the correct body panel stickers.

I was just going to mention those seats. There are similar ones you can also find in the 987, which is like a needle in a haystack when I was looking for one.

Already? Damn.

Stroked MB 2.3-16.

http://bringatrailer.com/listing/198...-w2-5-stroker/

I've never warmed up to these as much as the E30 M3 or the Sierra Cosworth, but they do have a certain appeal. And this one certainly seems to be a good one.

That's the one I was thinking of.

clyde 03-14-2016 06:15 PM

I think that was the Benz in Gran Turismo 3 or 4 that was a total fucking blast to drive around the Ring. I think it was one of the license tests that needed a full lap under whatever time.

Just thinking. That's all. :)

blee 03-15-2016 10:10 AM

The 2.3-16 was never as good as the E30 M3, but it was a cool car for sure. And, unless things have changed recently (I haven't RTFA yet), they haven't exploded in price nearly as much.

FC 03-15-2016 10:39 AM

Drool. Few cars have such beautiful proportions from the side (minus the wing). It's the golden rectangle of cars. Another that comes to mind is the 458. Beautiful silhouette.

Yup. The GT car was the full DTM race car, but yeah, one of the most fun GT cars to drive.

If anyone is interesting in a 25-year rule 190E 2.5-16 (2.5, but *not* Evo), let me know. A friend is importing one from Japan. Dog leg and 80k KILOMETERS. He's not looking for much for it.

I'm personally trying to resist the JZX81, which is a Toyota product that's actually interesting. (A RWD sedan with a manual and the 1JZ GTE...)

There is a fraction of a snowball's chance in hell I may be interested in one of those if I knew more about it - especially the price.

JST 03-15-2016 02:26 PM

Similar chance of interest, depending on the price. What kind of ballpark is he in?

No, didn't get a chance to. Was having too much fun drinking beer and eating sausage in Over the Rhine.

Cincinnati is a cool place, actually.

how does this happen? this is way too much money.

i thought BaT was more value-based buying?

It's an auction site, so it all depends on who's watching the screen as the seconds tick down. You can get weird aberrations in any auction.

But, yeah--that's too much money for a fairly common 12 year old car with mileage that isn't that low. Maybe the bubble is starting to inflate under 996s, IMS and all?

EDIT:

"Being cautious, he flat-bedded the car to ROCS Auto for installation of the LN Engineering retro-fit kit; while there, the rear main seal, clutch, pressure plate and flywheel were also replaced. As it turned out, the seller said, the IMS bearing was fine. Photos taken by the shop while the work was being done are shown in the photo gallery. (Underbody views will be added once they are received.)"

Also. Is there any real evidence that the LN kit has a lower failure rate than the stock part? I get the theoretical reasons why it should work better, but I don't have a huge amount of faith that they've actually built a better mouse trap.

I watched this video and they said the Porsche bearing was sealed vs the new one is open so get lubed by engine oil

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dndanlFmcW8

Jeff_DML 03-19-2016 10:46 AM

And lemming there is another 4s on bat going for a much more reasonable 20k,see how much is it closes at

JST 03-19-2016 01:08 PM

I understand the theory behind the LN bearing (to the extent that a liberal arts guy can). I just wonder how that theory works in practice. How much validation testing did they do?

Probably it works fine. Does it materially reduce the risk of the bearing failing? I guess? But the sample size of cars with failed bearings is already small (3-5 percent?). The number of cars that have had the LN bearing is even smaller.

All I'm really saying is that this whole thing is shrouded in hysteria and mixed motives. Porsche doesn't want you to know how big a problem there is. LN naturally benefits if you think the problem is enormous. no one, afaik, with an unbiased perspective has any visibility into the full scope of the problem.

bren 03-19-2016 03:12 PM

In casually shopping used cars from the generations in question, I've seen many advertising engine replacements. Enough that I'm convinced the oe setup is scary.

As far as 4s pricing, I've also noticed that they command a significant premium.

When my orig IMS bearing came out, it was fine and the ball bearings were in great shape. But I figured this since my car was driven and had normal oil changes.

Now I just treat it like I do any German water pump: it's a wear item.

The pricing in the 20s makes more sense to me.
