2020 RS6 Avant coming to US

Looks pretty good. Obviously won't be cheap. Do Audis still lease poorly?

TTV8 with mild hybrid, 591bhp, 0-60 in <3.6

You have my attention.

I still think an EV is my likely next car, and this is too expensive to consider, but that is a cool car.

Jeff_DML 08-21-2019 12:49 PM

Mentioned it to my wife but she asked would I recommend the RS6 avant over the AMG 5 series wagon and I am not sure if i would. Guess I like the drift mode/rwd option on the AMG.

interesting...

Very cool. It will be well north of 100k, but cool. As far as leasing, yes, Audis still lease poorly especially high-end low production ones like this.

Uber wagons like these, hell even uber sedans, are a wash with me. To expensive up front and then to expensive to fix once they are a good price used.

I guess the sweet spot is to buy used after the huge depreciation but then shell out for the best extended warranty you can get. Then aim to sell as soon as said warranty gets close to its end date.

I should have sold the E39 when that happened. Oh well live and learn.

If you're not power hungry (but I guess we all are here), there's this:

Wow, that's steep. And I thought my 2011 E91 at 50k MSRP was crazy expensive.

Too much for no stick and a 4-banger. I rather buy a used AMG for 40-50k and keep the balance for repairs.

Yeah. They must think they have a rare beast. And they kind of do with its spec. But it's definitely muted by the 4 cylinder and AWD--and plastic seats.

Neat... I guess?

10 years ago I might have been interested in this.

FC 08-22-2019 06:36 PM

I could see getting a used AMG wagon in a few years if for whatever reason the M3 is gone, but it's hard to imagine there will not be a more compelling EV to choose instead.

zach 12-13-2019 09:35 AM

Hypothetically, how quickly do people think these will depreciate? Are they going to be rare / special enough to maintain value? Or will they do the normal Audi thing of cratering?

I think it would depend on how many are sold. I suspect they will sell a few more than MB sells AMG wagons, but not much more.

I believe those are pretty rare so they somewhat hold their value compare to other AMG's, but ultimately they still depreciate like most cars. I imagine there is a higher floor for these for well-maintained examples after many years.

In a few years, when all MT's are gone and our LR4 starts getting old, I can see getting one of these as the family car, but as I mentioned above, by then EV's may have completely taken over. I've had a fast wagon before and would love another at some point.

I feel like I just saw a previous version (Stuka's era) on BaT. I'll see if I can find it.

zach 12-13-2019 10:06 AM

Thanks. I totally agree it depends on scarcity - just wondering if anyone has thoughts on how many they'll sell new. Guess we'll see!

wdc330i 12-13-2019 10:08 AM

Here it is. Not crazy money for sure, but high mileage car and not an RS version:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...i-s4-avant-14/

Edit: Here's an RS:
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2003-audi-rs6-59/

How much bigger will the 6 be versus the 4? I remember driving the pain old A6 and A4 back in the day, and thinking the A6 was boring to drive and the A4 a lot more fun. Not sure what the RS factor brings to the table, other than power. I do like that it apparently is a bit shorter than the Mercedes wagon, which is a tad too big for my tastes. Something in between the most recent 3 wagon and the Mercedes in size would be perfect.

zach 12-13-2019 10:18 AM

Thanks WDC. The new A6 is decently large - more trunk space than a Q5 (though less than we have in the X5).

Interesting. It is, however, much easier to use a rooftop box with a wagon...
