Got a loaner X5 today

All I can say is, "Nevermind."

I had entertained the notion of this as a next family vehicle, and perhaps if this iteration had the sport suspension, the turbo diesel, and the third row seat, I might weaken a little. But really, other than the third row seat, I cannot see one benefit over our 5 wagon. In fact, the dogs have a much harder time leaping into this skyscraper tail gate than they do the short hop into the wagon.

If anything, I'd like to see us downsize to the e91. I just don't like driving big cars.

On another side note, I saw a 128 convertible in the showroom with the top down. I want it.

yup.

even owning a similar vehicle, i just don't get it at all.

esp. given the price of them ---or is that the point?

I'm with you 100%. I got an X5 as a loaner once and I didn't get it. At all. No love whatsoever.

One of my business partners has an X-5 and he loves it.

Of course, his second car is a 335.

It actually drives really nicely for a truck...For a truck.

I agree - so did my V8 Touareg - for a truck!

We love ours. For what it is it's pretty damn good. I tried to talk my wife into looking at a wagon, but she wasn't digging it. My only bitch is the electronic transmission. Every now and then it doesn't know what to do.

I've loaded that badboy with 25+ bags of mulch, its certainly serves its purpose. It's also great on the highway. Very comfortable. My Dad lives about 100 miles from Houston and we often drive up for the weekend. The dog is comfortable, and there is plenty of room for any and all my wife's BS.

I have to admit my 80-year-old father hopped into the thing like a youngster. The elevated height really helps him out. He just doesn't really bend anymore.

Gas mileage for the 3 litre engine is around 11.5 city. Woof! Even worse than the wagon's 14 or so average. Currently, my 2002 330i gets about 20 with a lead foot.

Yes. The transmission is a little jerky. So, too, our '06 5 wagon.
