2021 Bronco
Sounds like the reveal (which had been set for April) is now confirmed for July.
https://twitter.com/SpeedSportLife/s...51440001310720 I don't know what's wrong with me, but a 7 speed 2 door Bronco sounds really intriguing. |
I'm actually really looking forward to seeing this too!
|
I'm not really clear why I'd want this instead of a Jeep, but it's at least interesting.

I still have an unscratched (12+ yo) itch to own a 4-door Wrangler. The new ones are nice but boy do they feel small inside with the top on.
My wife is on board with it too. I'm just not willing to give up the Miata for it and it's no replacement for the LR4, so until we can justify it as a 4th car, it ain't happening. And again, we should really get a vehicle with at least a short-range all-electric range. I'll say that after dismissing the Gladiator, considering how often I wish I had a pick up, that really would check off even more boxes. |

My understanding, from spending way too much time in a dealership getting the wife's new Fusion, is that the manual trans is a six speed. The 7th gear is a crawl gear.

Just release the darn thing.:irate: Just like the Pixel 4a
Interested in the bronco but not to buy:? |
The new Bronco is at the top of the Husband's 'next car' list.

Both will have turbo four pots. Jeep has a minivan v6. But also a superb diesel. Hard to see Ford topping this lineup. |
I loved the diesel on my late JGC (an earlier VM engine). It wasn't fast, but so smooth, torquey and sipping...
Is the Bronco going to have a manual option? Saw a rumor to that effect. |
Manual option is all but confirmed, 6 speed with a low-end creeper gear, though it’s not clear which engines it will be available with.
Engines are likely the 2.3 turbo four from Ranger and a twin turbo six, probably the 2.7, which makes 325 hp/400 lbs-ft in the F-150. Probably not on diesel, at least at first, though Ford has one in the F-150 it could use. But diesels don’t interest me much these days. |
Turbo six cylinder sounds interesting

BTW, the X3M I drove has the engine that’s going in the new M3/4 I believe. It was hard to tell much about the engine in my short test and in that beast of a vehicle. |

It is very hard, to my mind, beat the simplicity of the Jeep. But I’d try a different approach for sure. |
Lots of new info here, including pics of the manual shifter:

It would be nice to have an alternative to the Jeep Wrangler.

defender is interesting to me since it goes against traditional offroad setup. Does it with a lot of tech that is at least partially British designed:? |

Wow- even closer than I thought. Seeing the 2 side by side I really prefer the LR4. Also cool how much roomier the interior is vs the newer car- I think the 3rd row in particular is much roomier in the lr4 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The LR3/4 was a very successful design. Think about the fact that it was designed around the turn of the millennium (LR3 released in 2005), and that at least the US still could not stock enough of them in its last years of production. It is expensive to run (weight, fuel, maintenance, accessories, parts), but besides obviously being super capable it's surprisingly comfortable, roomy (for its footprint), and was a sneaky very good value as it was priced with mid-size European SUV's with V6's at the time. Lucky for us I can do (so far) all of the maintenance and we don't put a lot of miles. But we knew that would be the case, otherwise we would not have bought it. You can't go from a 4Runner to an LR4 and expect the same ownership, yet some do. It's funny to see the LR forum change where you now have 2nd or 3rd owners buying them for $10-20k and a lot of miles and limited service history and being surprised about costs to operate and repair. The newest V8's (like mine) are 7 years old. |
