Inspection II

Does anyone here know if 100k miles usually necessitates an inspection II? The "inspection" is now illuminated. I really don't feel like dropping $700 on this again. I hope it's inspection I. I suppose I could look through my records, but I'm too lazy.

You can do all (or at least most) of the Inspection II work yourself--no need to give $700 to a shop to check brade pad thicknesses and so forth. IIRC, for the E46 the schedule is (roughly) 15K oil change, 30K Inspection I, 45K oil change, 60K Inspection II, 75K oil change, 90K Inspection I. Can't remember what the E36 schedule was.

You *could* RTFM...

I *think* the schedule was closer to 10k for the e36. They came with conventional oil, after all. It's also not quite as easy to do inspection ii yourself on the e36 as I think it includes stuff like changing the fuel filter and sprak plugs and stuff. Easy enough for a back yard mechanic, but not as easy as do nothing.

At 100k, it's a little worse though. You probably are ready for transmission fluid, differential fluid, coolant . . . Zach, I think you need to read the manual. But at least you can reset the lights when you are done. ;)

Yeah, I need to RTFM. I agree. I just didn't have it at work.

I hereby witrdraw the query. I'll look when I get home.

Thanks guys.

E36s are based on 9K miles, reduced by excessive fuel use. E46s based on 15,525 miles, reduced by excessive fuel use.
