Dial 911
With all of the various perseveration threads we have out there, I don't think we have one for the random 911s that we come across, think we should buy, but eventually do not.
Here, let me start: http://www.intersportsales.com/2009-...8/Details.aspx |
Ohhh l like the color, the optional sport seats and the aftermarket exhaust.
Nice one! |
Yeah, that checks most of the boxes. It's missing sport chrono and leather dash, but presumably you can live without those.
I've been looking for a 2010-2011 911 GTS but haven't found many that are priced reasonably. Seem like a sweet spot for the 997s. |

I'm still annoyed at that white one I missed. Edit: And, yeah, I too really want a GTS. Just not willing to spend $70+. |

I don't think it's a bad price. These cars remain stupidly expensive. They bottomed out a few years ago--I think when I was looking in 2011 you could get a 3 year old car for about this price.
They haven't been that cheap since. |
It seems really high. That or the cayman and boxster are a screaming bargain.
|

I think it's "and." Though it has always been the case that the Boxster/Cayman are insanely better values than the 911, year for year, even brand new. |
Quote:
edit: I only see maybe (4) within 100 miles listed cheaper. :ack: |
I know i'm in the minority, but the only reason I even consider lusting after a 911 is all the hype this board gives it and the idea that owning a Porsche is supposed to be cool. That car is bleh to me.
|
You have not 1, but 2 station wagons. Thanks for your input.
:D |
looks sweet to me and nicely optioned minus the 997 turbo wheels.

They need to build something like the RS America again. I thought the original 911 r rumors were something similar.
But yeah what is the point when they can sell as many 100k plus 911 they want. |
a black 993 ...:)
|
I would much rather a base 991 over a 997S, but that's me. And I test drove a ton over the last few months, pretty much right after I got the GT4 and knew it wasn't working. I like a good ride and a more balanced handling feel. I don't mind a revvy engine that likes winding up. The 997 certainly drives more "911-like", but to me, not a fetishist, that's a positive. Don't miss the bobbing light nose. The 991 front end actually has grip going into a turn.
|
My TT was a far better deal than anything you guys are putting up. Just sayin'.
|
I shopped hard for a 987.2S or 997.2S for a few months. Nearly nothing on the market that was good value. There was one over the winter in PCA/Kansas. Low 50's for a low mileage, LSD, black/black 997.2S, sold in 2-3 weeks at a very fair price. Every single other 987/997 (2009+) have been overpriced and prices are very close to where my sold my 2010 997.2 in 2012 and my 2011 987.2S in 2013.

No.
This old 911 fetish has run its course. That is a good car at $30k, not the 50's that it's going to reach. I drove a very similar, clean, extremely well-maintained and optioned 993 coupe 6MT back to back with a base, base, no options other than heated seats, 2014 boxster. Guess what? THe boxster wiped the floor clean, the driving experience of the 993 was archaic, it didn't feel as good at turns or stopping, not even close. The acceleration was comparable or would go to the willing 981. That boxster was asking at $40k with low miles and a CPO. Anyone buying these are going for - style/heritage/emotional want - piddly back seats (mayyy be) not the driving experience. Those are fine reasons but driving is not one of them. |

I haven't gotten serious enough to actually look yet, but everything I've read says the new car has more interior space. It has a longer wheelbase and it's wider also, so there's that.
|
I still want a 997 GTS

Apparently it also adjust transmission modes if you have the PDK, but if you have a stick it just messes with the throttle mapping? Or something? :? :ack: |

On the 997TT Sport Chrono made a huge difference in throttle response - similar to the MCS's sport button. Oh, and on the TT it freed up more torque.

Or does it eliminate delays? |
Supposedly the Sport Chrono mapping eliminates throttle lag, without making the car jumpy like the old BMW E46 M3 "Sport mode" button.
All for the low low price of a couple grand and an ugly clock on the dash. The aftermarket companies can do cool things like do the Sport Chrono coding, plus eliminate the stupid "drive-off assistant," a.k.a. a feature designed to help people who don't know how to drive a stick but which in actuality makes me stall the car about once a month, plus tune for a bit more power... for a few hundred bucks. |

I'm still confused. |
Ah, PAG are such gods of marketing. That said, if it is really $1495 installed, that's like the best option money ever spent in porsche-land on any option.

And yes, Porsche does all sorts of things to make you give them extra money. Nature of the beast. |
