AZ trip coming up....

Maybe....

We might be heading to Phoenix for a few days between Christmas and New Years - just because....

Things to do?
Grand Canyon good to see this time of year (south rim)?

Probably fly in and out of Phoenix...

Welcome all ideas on things to do (or not do).
Automotive, historical, interesting... Any and all.
Staying in Phoenix or the area - no plans specifically....
Just tossing this out here for ideas...

Let me know if you want to meet up -- we'll be around.

Grand Canyon is about a 4 hour drive each way. Usually a bit better if you do it as an overnight. Drive up through Sedona, get to the Canyon by mid afternoon, stay for sunset. Grab a hotel in Tusayan. Next day, drive along the Canyon to her east, coming out near Cameron (stop at the trading post and grab an authentic Navajo lunch). Then head back to Phoenix via Flagstaff (a bit over 3 hours from Cameron)

As for things in Phoenix... there's the Desert Botanical Garden. Lots of places for hikes (Piestewa Peak, Camelback, Pinnacle Peak)...

Unfortunately, all the car events are in Jan -- auction week is the 3rd week of the month.

Thanks for the info...

Yes, had similar thoughts about the trip to the Grand Canyon (but you gave me some nice details to work into).

Will probably spend the balance of the time in and around Phoenix and environs.

And yes, will send you details of my schedule (when I know).

Thanks again...

Into architecture? I've always wanted to go see Taliesin West, but haven't had the chance. There are some other notable FLW buildings in Phoenix.

Not exactly Phoenix, but if you've never been...

Titan Missile Museum, Pima Air & Space Museum and the Boneyard/AMARG are about two hours south near Tuscon.

Thanks for the extra info....
Wasn't familiar with Taliesin West or the Missile Museum... (was with Pima and the Boneyard - somewhat).

Thanks again

Taliesin West is really cool... I always forget places like that.

If you want to go down to the Titan Missile and/or Pima Air & Space museums, let me know -- I've never been (even though I went to college in Tucson) and it would make a good day trip.

Another idea is Arcosanti. Its about an hour north of Phoenix, and tours take an hour or so. Its an experimental town developed by Paolo Soleri. Sort of a commune / hippie view of a modern city. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcosanti

Funny story related to Frank Lloyd Wright: We had an extra credit assignment in high school where if we visited something like 5 historic buildings that we would visit and write a paragraph about. A friend of mine and I did the assignment together one day after school. We started at his house and walked around his neighborhood and had the assignment done in about 10 minutes. His house was FLW-designed and in a neighborhood with a few others, with the Arizona Biltmore Hotel being down the street (which was FLW-influenced -- he wan't the architect, but he consulted on it...).

Thanks - will do.... I'll drop you a line a few days before we head down and let you know what the 'plan' is - as far as that goes anyway.

And thanks for the additional info... You never know.. :)

I'm back north now....

Thanks for the ideas.
Went to Pima and the Boneyard... Not enough time for the Missile Museum.

Found a few things that warrant a return later to investigate more of....
And ZBB- was great to have lunch.

Thanks again for the ideas.

Thanks for the lunch Kevin!

Hope you got back before the rain hit -- it feels more like the Northwest this weekend...
