I've spent a bit of time on Jeep forums and can't say I've ever seen anyone come in ask about "reasonable" tires for their Rubicon. ;)

There's a first time for everything.

I have to admit that Wranglers can be a boatload of fun on the street. You can have ridiculous fun at speeds that are, well, low.

This winter I had been driving my Wrangler as a daily driver commuter vehicle for about 3-4 months since my wife and I were no longer car pooling. It wasn't bad. And in some respects more relaxed and nicer. I was certainly up a bit higher than the BMW. Didn't have to worry about pot holes, pavement cracks . . . or curbs. :eeps:

Today is a brilliant sky blue day in Seattle, the sun is out and it feels great. I was VERY tempted to take the Jeep in to work today but it'd still be a bit nippy with the top down and I was too lazy to get bundled up in cold weather gear.

But defintely as weather improves I'll be taking it in more often.

Some pictures I took from last spring on a morning commute:

All ready to go. . . top down and doors off.

Roll'n through the neighborhood with my head out the door
watching the tires turn.

Even sitting in rush hour traffic on the freeway is nice.
It feels like you're sitting on a park bench in the middle
of traffic and that is patently unfair
to all non-Jeep drivers. :D

Here's my experience with a Jeep.

If I wasn't set on getting a full-size p/u, a Wrangler would probably be in its place.

That's another cool thing about wranglers... there is no better beach car.

Yup, that plus the fact that who knows what a previous owner did with a Rubicon (perhaps modded beyond what I want), and the new lifetime warranty (for new buyers only) + special financing really makes one think about getting one new.:eeps: Nevermind that you can get exactly what you want.

I sold my Rubicon at full asking price (including the price of mods) within five hours of putting it on the market, and still had people calling a week later - no exaggeration.

That's nuts.

I do miss it. Great vehicle.

It's parked out at my aunt's house in her barn. Just waiting . . . :eeps:

Oh, and I built it myself, too.

Ok, fine. There is no better street-legal, bone stock car that can fit the whole family.

Anyway, your buggy is pretty awesome.

Yeah, well, I still managed to get it stuck.

I was riding a ridge on a sand dune "sight seeing" down into the trees below when the crest gave out and the back end started sliding down hill. I tried to floor it, popped a 5 ft wheelie and felt the whole buggy start to go over. Oh well, best to makes it less bad . . . so I grabbed the cutting brake and cranked back on the right caliper and floored it, pivoted the buggy and at least got the nose pointing downhill . . . sort of.

Then went for help.

Took about 40 min. That haze to the left on the dune? Flying sand. Winds were about 60+ mph. Everyone else was in a nice, enclosed cabin. Me? Getting sandblasted.

Damn it was fun though.
