They don't typically actually go through downtown areas, but now that urban centers have expanded, you have buldings like this just off farm roads

Rumor has it that said BMW driver above was otherwise pre-occupied on her phone. But that's just what I heard.

Austin American Statesman:

Austin woman dies in wreck while talking on cell phone
Friend on other end of call hears the crash

Friends said 29-year-old Sarah Polkowski of Austin often talked on her cell phone while she was driving.

In the midst of a conversation Friday with her best friend, she lost control of her red BMW on a rain-slick road, swerved into oncoming traffic and hit a commercial truck.

Her friend "heard her intake of breath, like a startle," said her husband, Stephen Polkowski, "and then something that sounded like the start of a crash before the call ended."

Austin police, who were still investigating the cause of the noon wreck on RM 2222, said witnesses saw the westbound BMW veer into the eastbound lanes.

heh... how stupid! I hope more Austin motorists read this story and start using headsets or a bluetooth phones, or just wait until they get home to talk.

What's the difference between a Farm to Market road VS. a Ranch Road?

Yes, Texas is super sized.

4 digit road names are kewl... have to repeat it a couple times to remember when ya first hear it. But that's just me.

I'm pretty sure that an FM is a road that was called that because it went from a non-urban ("country") area to another urban ("city") area. 2222 goes from out where there used to be NOTHING 25 yrs ago to a fairly highly populated area at Mopac and 2222. As for a RR, Im not quite certain, but I have lived in the area almost 20 yrs and most of the land back then where 620 is now was owned by one or more HUGE ranch owners. Meaning I think 620 was originally strictly a road to go from either one ranch to another or maybe even just go from one side of a massive ranch to the other side. That would be my guess.

How about a big ranch that 360 now sits on top of?
Imagine how nice of a race track you can build in the Hill Country East and West of 360. It's like you can build a Nurburgring in Austin.

15 mile track, 60 turns, with elevation changes as much as 30 stories. Perfectly smooth pavement, with perfectly clean red and white strips at each apex, turn in, and track out points. Just gotta fench the entire place down so there won't be any deer or cowz hangin out.
