What tires should I buy for my WRX?

So, as it looks likely that I will not have anything in the way of a new car by the time autox season starts, as much as I don't want to I am thinking about running the WRX. The stock tires are crap. I am torn between getting a set of competition-type tires and just getting a set of good, ultra-high performance street tires (like Azenis) that wouldn't be as fast on the course, but would allow me to drive on better tires than the OEMs during the rest of the summer (I will keep the OEM tires/wheels for winter use).

Any thoughts on which R comps I should look at? The A032Rs? Which non-R comps would be good? Azenis? Any other recommendations?

Cheap is better than not cheap, since I won't be competitive anyway.

EDIT:

Also, what's the best place to buy a set of aftermarket wheels for the Scooby? Tires?

Anythign other than RA-1s would be silly.

And you can drive those every day. Mine still have life on them with 6,000 street miles, 6 or 7 track days, and a bunch of autoxes.

Can my wife drive on them everyday? Are they at all scary in the wet? That'd be my only concern.

stock re92s are terrible.

key will be light wheels plus sticky tires.

you looking all season hi po or no?

if all season (i doubt you would), i love the Pzero Nero M&S tires. for summers only, i don't really think it matters because anything is an improvement over the re92s.

RE92's blow as far as pseudo-performance tires go. Honda used to put them on all their Accords. That should say something about their intended purpose.

If you go with street tires, my vote would be for the Bridgestone RE-040. That's what I had on my "ZHP", and was extremely impressed.

No more so than the Azeni are. :p Full tread, they'r efucking planted in the wet. They will get a little skittish, but it's a WRX.

RE040s are pretty underwhelming.

WTF?!

You're thinking of wheels too? Then screw R comps...

Get the wheel size you want and run in STX using Azenis (old or the replacement tires)

I think you'd be best off trying to find someone else's car to codrive for the year in the WDCR events and running whatever you can scrape up for the BMW and Council events...looking at your teamates first.

They work rather well at Rosechunk and Bowie. :paranoid:
