When I stopped by last Friday, there were about 20 on the lot. Only 2 had 19s and one had the 20s. The rest had the 18s. 3-4 had the white interior.

The Tesla red color is so good.

Funny—he seems to be based around here. That supercharger is in Springfield.

Obligatory launch reactions starting at 27:00

Looking at the length of this video, could not summon up the will to start watching.

I'm guessing the drive is very good. The cons are major for me:
- early days; in car production, in electric battery tech and Tesla future
- need to add electric infrastructure to my old house
- no indie service
- big screen, ugh
- how does it go to remote Northern VT in mid-winter? Any AWD car I have needs to do this.
- front end looks like the mouth has been sewn shut

If I think of it as a 535i replacement instead of JGC, it makes more sense as it removes the tough Northern VT constraint, the others remain, but I expect it's a much more electrifying :eeps drive than the 5er. I drive the 5 so little, about 5k miles/year, at this point, I can't justify the expense.

That's why I included the pointer to 27:00 for the launch reactions!

And yes, the list of cons is legitimate, and quite lengthy. But...... have you driven one?

Never drove (or sat in?) a Tesla. The i3 is the only full-EV I've driven.

My list may look like sour grapes, but honestly electrician is the hardest for me. In two years, I haven't found a good one local to me. I have a whole electric to-do list that is waiting before I could get to wiring up the driveway...

I also need to keep the Boxster; Cara loves that car and won't let me sell it. I don't think I'd ever bother to "fire it up" once I had a sporty EV available for short trips. And that would be a shame, not to mention keeping both in addition to whatever Cara drives as well as some kind of winter vehicle is just too much.

Yeah, I'm not trying to talk you into one. I'm just saying, it's not a logical choice. It's about deciding that instant torque is your thing, and you must have one immediately despite it being a huge waste of money.

And for me, commuting into the city often hitting stop-and-go traffic. My use case is very different than a sports car.

Got a call from a different Tesla person today — this time to schedule delivery. I took the earliest day, which is Mon 10th at 4pm.

Winter does affect range, but only when the battery is cold soaked — and heating the battery reduces range. That impacts range by ~20% — in my experience last winter, I saw my ~55 mile commute use an extra 10 miles of range in winter.

Once the battery is warm, the impact is negligible. I drove from Phoenix to Flagstaff a couple years ago — all below freezing (left my house in Scottsdale at 29F, saw temps as low as 4F, and arrived in Flagstaff in the mid 20s. That drive (about 130 miles) used about the same energy as a previous trip when it was in the 60s...

As for charging , take a look at tesla’s Find Us page to see where Superchargers are along your route and if a hotel or restaurant has a destination charger. The 3 has a 300+ mike rated range, so you just need enough charge to get to your destination and back to a Supercharger (and they have them in Montpelier and Burlington...)

Just saw two of these driving to pick up my kid from school this evening.

ZBB and rumatt--do you see anywhere on your account page an indication that free supercharging is enabled? I want to make sure it is, particularly before the 9/16 deadline, but I don't see any obvious confirmation.
