Our GTI (and previously Golf TDI) sets of winter wheels required centering rings... They were MSW going on VW hubs. I ended up leaving the rings on the wheels with no ill effect, just make sure they don't get lost. They seem flimsy but they are not weight-bearing, never caused any wobbles.
Wheel/tire minutiae... The worst was the S4 where I went with BBS SR for winter. They required centering rings AND different bolts (conical vs. spherical). And they needed locks as I occasionally parked outside and they were more than decent for winter wheels. And that lock set needed to be different from the summer lock set. So two sets of wheels/tires, centering rings, two sets of lug bolts, two sets of wheel locks, none of them interchangeable. :ack: :ack: Fun times at the tire shop during swapping... I go to a shop where I can 100% supervise/micromanage the process. |

And I just shake my head at myself. |
I truly don’t understand the hard on the NYT has for anti-Tesla stories.

Matt, those wheels look great, how were they today in this snowy weather ?
Clyde you’ve got me thinking ... I’ve got to switch out the Porsche wheels for the winter ... do I need to change he lug nuts ? I’ve done the swap I think for the last 4 years ... how do you tell if a wheel bolt needs to be replaced ? I never had a car this long that I switched out the wheels so much ... Btw anyone can chime in it’s just that Clyde brought it up and got me thinking. |
AF I didn't drive on them yet. I kept it in the garage for this mess...
Regarding lug nuts... You've changed them 4 times. You're fine. Clyde & company are swapping there wheels every weekend or two for races so they get a lot more use. |
C'mon man. AWD plus snows? Go out there, find some empty spots (not hard where you live) and have some fun. But I could see that your driveway may have been blocked, buried by your other not snow-tired vehicles.
This storm really came early. LI got a fair amount but not as much as the Northern and Western suburbs. |
