I want a Jeep Gladiator.

It makes no sense.

But it’s a vehicle I don’t want to want.

But the JL Wrangler is so good, the Gladiator appeals to me even more.

equ 12-03-2018 07:04 PM

Huh, it's like the last vehicle I'd want. Horses for courses... But I expect they'll be very successful.

Josh (PA) 12-03-2018 07:30 PM

i like it.

rumatt 12-03-2018 08:46 PM

I've been staring at it trying to figure out why I would want one.

And why I wanted one a year ago before they were ready.

I'm coming up empty.

What do you use the Wrangler for that it is good at?

JST 12-03-2018 08:55 PM

There's part of me that's interested in a JL, but I don't actually have any pickup needs that would be met by the small bed on the back. Looks like a good way to get your cargo wet and stolen.

rumatt 12-03-2018 09:37 PM

If you want to go offroad it's not the best vehicle.

If you want a truck to use the bed it's not the best vehicle

If you want comfortable road driving it's not the best vehicle

If you want all three??? I am still not convinced it's the right vehicle.

I'm watching some TFL Truck youtube videos on the gladiator and laughing at the comments

After the liftkit and add ons that people do to the jeep this thing will get an amazing 9 MPG

All this hype and the best they can do is a 3.6 V6? Lmao

No way in hell that thing would pull 7600 pounds safely.
...
Hey Jeep!! You need a smaller cab option with a bigger bed!!!!
...
Never buy a first run American car. You are the beta tester.
...
No 5.7 hemi or a two door model? No thanks
...
137" wheelbase holy hell. Not surprised but it's just soaking in. This thing will need minimum 40" tires to make any sense on the trails lol
...
That thing is as long as a full size but it's not considered full size?
...
It looks like a hummer raped a jeep and wanted to transition into a Ford afterwards
...
Little longer and it will be confused for a limousine

Chill out. This isnt even a real truck. Only women and teens ride this shit
...
Will the death wobble of the unreliable jeep pull you off the road and cause a crash and burn?

only after the heater core leaks all over the interior and the wiring loom splits in two.
OK I'm done.

Put me in the camp of the Gladiator being near the bottom of my "I want one of these" list. What's the definition of a "Jack of all trades?" The Wrangler is pretty much the opposite of that. Not really good at anything you'd ever ask it to do. Clunky on-road, not quiet, not efficient, not spacious, not luxurious and lacking in utility as a truck.

Awesome.

edit: Then I ran across the Edmunds "True cost to own" list (this one from 2012) on another forum. It's like a listing of the cars I'd least like to own and drive.

Edit: Just looked at the Gladiator. I totally want one.

lemming 12-04-2018 04:17 PM

I wanted a Colorado too. But I think I prefer the Gladiator.

The JL does everything I’ve ever needed in a utility vehicle.

But I never get to drive it. So instead of getting two JLs, I might try a Gladiator. Just for fun.

The pick up trucks Jeep used to sell make much more sense, but they didn't sell very many.

It was a 2 door, with a real world sized bed.

This 4 door spongebob square "truck" makes little sense, so it will probably sell

Hauling three dogs.

Hauling brush and wood. Lots of mulch and soil. Tons of plants.

When the rear seats are folded down not as much space as JK but it’s still cavernous.

Good God.

Safety is never even something I look at on any vehicle.

You’re talking to someone who commuted in Boston year round in a mid 80s Carrera.

This test relies heavily on automated systems, at first glance.

I’ll just keep my mouth shut about this.

It is comical.

I don't know anything about the star ratings. Are they bogus?

Based on a quick glance at the video, the cabin remains largely intact in all cases. I didn't see any body parts hit hard surfaces either, except maybe the rear passenger's head on the C-pillar in the T-bone test.

I'd eyeball it as pretty good, but who knows what they are looking at.

My nieghbor's kid had an incident in his 2000(?) XJ on Christmas Eve. Story I heard was a truck turned left in front of him. Not sure of the extent of his injuries, but he was home that night and not getting further medical attention until Wednesday morning. He hit his head and has significant shoulder, back and leg pain. Standing and walking are not his thing at the moment.

OMG. That looks horrible. I hope he recovers well. A reminder to care about vehicle safety...

Poor kid, that is terrible ... hopefully he recovers well.

Positive review.

I'm still feeling no love.

kognito 04-03-2019 02:52 PM

I think it is going to sell well.

I doubt there will be one in my driveway. I have a hard time getting in and out of the current 4 door jeep (long legs) I'm sure this will be just as bad

Waiting to see how the diesel works out in this application.

It’s wickedly long which could be challenging. Or not.

Launch Edition sells out in 1 day

Interesting. But why do I not really trust Fords?

This article was linked in your post. This version looks interesting. (Wife doesn't like the skid plates)

15 years ago, I was a big Ford fanboy. I made a lot of money owning both their debt and stock. Their decision to stop selling all cars in America, except for the Mustang I feel will end up being a huge mistake for them.

The Focus in our garage, which was bought to be towed behind our RV, will probably be my last Ford product for a long long time.

(But if the Bronco ends up looking anything like the article I linked above, I might have to take a closer look)

Whoa.

Wonder when Subaru will bring back the Baja...

kognito 07-27-2019 07:03 PM

There is a company in Denver that imports Holden Ute's, and converts them to left hand drive.

If I have to drive a funny looking small pickup, it might as well have a V8 in it

ZBB 07-27-2019 08:02 PM

When I was last in Australia, I saw several left hand drive Suburbans/Tahoe’s,,, I guess a Ute getting the same treatment makes sense,,,
