I'll add a dollar to that bet. |

I'm just amazed that nobody has come up with a Raspberry Pi / Arduino / etc. OBDII emulator that just goes "Nope, nothing to see here. Move along!" to pass inspection. |
Passed. I did the drive cycle at 230am last night, it was kinda fun in a Zen way.
EVAP never became ready, even after three bouts of idling. Perhaps, the tank starting out at 1/4 was not enough. The less official more paranoid versions say you need between 1/4 to 3/4's. EGR reset only about 20 miles from home, and again going above and beyond the official to do. I decelerated (a second time) from about 50 only downshifting 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 (rev-matched) and hit the brakes only at about 3mph and that's either what EGR needed or it was happenstance. Happy that NJ lets you pass with one Incomplete. Interestingly, the stock car sounded different, idled a bit worse but did not feel appreciably slower than my "tune". I guess it's a mild one. Perhaps when I put it back on it'll be more noticeable. I was also driving beyond granny to achieve the cycle. |
Canned tunes are almost universally terrible. A decent remote tune by a competent tuner will cost roughly the same and be better in every way (driveability, performance, safety margin).
|
The tune is far from terrible for my non-competitive purposes, I don't want to spend more than $350. I like that it has a slick app so I can flash back and forth. This version that I'm going to put on can be told that cats etc are stock so it should not mess with these codes again... While I didn't mind doing one, I don't look forward to another drive cycle.

I will say that I *hate* the drivability of the MHD tune on Mike's car. The bigger the tune, the worse it gets.

I might not be a racer or builder but I do care a lot about drivability and the MHD had zero such issues on my 535i. Perhaps not enough gains, but that's ok too. I will see after I reflash. |
