M3 sparkplugs after 3 years?
Dropped off the F80 for its final free oil change and was told it was due for a break fluid flush, cabin air filter, and spark plugs.
The car is 3 years old with 10,552 miles.:? It's all free, which is great, but the plug service surprised me. |
Yeah - I would have expected the plugs to be more of a mileage thing than a time thing... or whatever happened here....
Oh well, free is free. :) |
I always go by the manufacturer’s recommendation, what does the manual say ? I know in my 911 I had the spark plugs changed at probably around the close to that mileage but I think Porsche recommended it at the 5 year service …
Sometimes I look back and can’t believe the amount of maintenance I put into that car due to age rather then mileage. |
Plugs are every four years on the 987, regardless of mileage. Looks like the S55 M3 interval is indeed every 3 years.

On the S65, BMW was using the spark plugs for knock detection. So spark plug condition is absolutely critical. Maybe the S55 is also doing that?
|
Nope. Looks like they went back to knock sensors on the S55. I wonder what the reasoning was?

Run plugs too long in an S65, and it’ll cost you 30-40hp. |
