Seems Legit

Facebook Markeplace is weird, man.
Why is the car pictured not an Explorer Sport Trac? Why is the picture taken through a car windshield? |
Still better than the pictures Stuka used to take of his car.

Clearly he wants the 8.8 rear end to swap into the Fox body that he's never going to buy.

Today's entry is this definitely not-stolen Smart, which has a new motor and is gasoline powered but is also badged "Electric Drive" for some reason. Missing the key, which is probably fine and not suspicious! Good for parts.

Facebook marketplace continues to impress:
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...4563067393162/ Note that it appears to have a 3+1 mismatched tire set. |
not only couldn't afford the BAT listing charge, can only afford one tire at a time.
With those pictures, you have to wonder if the whole thing is a scam or not |
Those are mediocre photos for a used, $3k craiglist civic. How one could think they will do just fine for an 18yo, $125k F-car is beyond me.

TIL Stuka got his first Ferrari

My favorite from the set. Shows that...the puddle lamps work? I guess?

(I spent several hours this weekend merely merging, sorting, and purging photos from the ED trip in 2018. 6200 photos and videos. So far I've gone through 4k and deleted 1k. I deleted far better photos than that one that had far more interesting subjects.) |
The reality is that what to put on a car "for sale" ad or which type of photos to post is not obvious to non-car people. 10 years ago I created the ad for my parents' '03 XC70 and my family was blown away. They thought it looked very professional. Trust me it was nothing special.
But again, trying to sell a $125k Ferrari is on a different level. This is so ridiculous. |

and it must be quite a feat to get a smartphone to take a picture that far out of focus |

It's like Bring a Trailer on a bad acid trip.
The Lincoln ad, in particular, is...wow. I mean that pic is a screenshot of the guy's phone. It shows about as little detail as you can imagine. But what's hilarious is that from that pic I actually recognize the location and know where this car is parked. |
Those pictures honestly bother me less than the ones that are all f/2.8 so 90% of the photo is blurry.
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1999-honda-civic-30/ It's an auction. If the outer 50% of each photo is blurry, I'm assuming you're hiding something. |

That's odd - really had the lens opened up (I guess) to have such a narrow depth of field. Presuming that was done on purpose... dunno....
|
I actually enjoy putting car ads together. When I retire I could see it as a hobby/ side biz of detailing, prepping, photographing and writing the content. I really enjoy the negotiation part too.

I’ve generally had pretty good luck selling cars privately. Likely because I list them for “get this out of my driveway” prices. ;)
|
Maybe the ferrari dude tried BAT, but was rejected due to the attached pictures?

Speaking of wild things on FB marketplace...
I saw a Dakar E36 and got interested. Then I wasn't anymore. |

You guys are surprised people are selling print ads from 25 years ago? Because that's neither a rare nor new thing on eBay.
|
Very sad at all the print ads in all the Car and Drivers I’ve thrown out over the years.
But mostly I’m trying to figure out who would want to pay $12 for an ad for a slushbox E36 M3. |
So far, it looks like nobody wants it...?
Nostalgia is a hell of a drug, and they sold lots of slushy M3s :dunno: |
I currently have hundreds of C&D dating to 1994 I am going to recycle. I was actually thinking of going through some of them and cut out stuff like that. Many months later, I've done nothing for obvious time reasons. To John's point, I am very nostalgic. It makes no sense. I'll never read them. Still.
I'd love for C&D to do what Nat Geo did and archive the magazine digitally page by page, ads and all. I'd pay way too much for that and recycle the rags immediately. |
I mean, if it wasn't about a slushbox, I'd have bought it for the shop.
|
I realized the other day that my "Heaven Above You/Heaven Below You" E36 M3C poster that I bought 20 years ago when I had one had disintegrated into nothing, which was kind of sad. Though I guess I could get another one for $12, so it's not that sad.

I have boxes of car mags back to the 70s that should mostly go to recycling, but...don't. I still have two car magazine subs (C&D and R&T). They don't add to the boxes, though, as I give them to my nephew.
When I bought some older cars in the 80s and 90s, I enjoyed finding advertising for them at flea markets and bought some. Still have them. If I bought an old car like that again, I'd probably buy old advertising on ebay or a website and then display it on a wall at work. If I worked in an office. Which I hope to never do again. |
