Yes and no.
The wild fire is burning on the north side of I-90. We came down the ridge just south of I-90 on the other side of the valley floor. Assuming the two forests are in similar condition, there were stretches of trail where the trees were packed tight and had a lot of dry, dead branches on the lower parts of the trunks. Plus, I was surprised at how much dried and dead wood has accumulated from all the wind fall over the last several years.
We were basically driving through a giant pile of kindling.
No wonder the Forest Service had banned campfires. Those were some DRY forests up in the mountains.
