oh, and you can't buy a Colorado, rumatt. You will always have that Shania Twain "feel like a woman" song going through your head. Get the GMC Canyon if you need to buy half a truck.

It's OK. I like Shania Twain. :D

So how much was the rental, and more importantly how much of a PITA was it to get there, back, etc?

If the rental was a legitimate option, that is probably your best way to go. You should map out how often the little wagon couldn't do truck like things vs how much it would cost to buy, insure and maintain a truck full time. My guess is the little wagon can do 80% of truck things. For the 20% just grab the U Haul.

Sell the Cayman and put that cash in the bank minus a box of Cuban Cigars. Sit on your patio look at the lake and smoke one.

It was $89 ($19 + $0.89/mile) . It was worth it just to spend some time in a Ram 1500. The real annoyance is that the place is 20 mins away.

But you're right: if it's rare enough it's still worth it.

Yeah, I do to. but I couldn't get that commercial out of my head when test driving one.

I really need the extra leg room that the Colorado/Canyon doesn't offer.

I really need to take, and post pictures of my new Sierra 1500

And it had the big V8 so it felt faster than my e46. It's a lot of truck though. I don't think I can see myself driving that around town every time there's snow in the forecast. But maybe?

I also test drove a Colorado last week. I went while it was raining just to find out how painful the open diff is. Answer: less painful than I expected but still not good. Accelerating around a corner resulted in wheel spin sooner than I had hoped. But the good (ish?) news is thst the traction control is tuned on the aggressive side, in that it allows for wheel spin rather then shutting off the gas causing you to come to a halt. And the e-diff is doing something because every time I was spinning a wheel I was still making forward progress.

But there's something weird about the midsized truck segment. It's small ish and feels more like the size of a car, so I want to hold it to a higher standard on other things as well. But it's a truck: it rides like a truck over bumps, and has a 4wd system that is not optimized for things most people use it for.

The Ram had all the same downsides of the Colorado, but being a giant full size truck it's somehow easier to (irrationally? ) accept them. :dunno: :?

This post describes perfectly why the Ridgeline exists.

The Ram is YUGE. I've drive my FIL's and definitely felt like I needed two-lanes of country road to accommodate it. (It has those wide mirrors view around trailers...

That said, I really am a small car person. Most comfortable with E46/2 series size. Even the X5 is pushing my boundaries.

The Ram fits my FIL, though. He's 6'4" and 240+lbs.

I mean, the price is a little steep, but...

"Under the cab lives a 6.37 liter OM906LA turbodiesel six which employs a three-valve cylinder head design. Output should be roughly 260 HP at 2200 RPM with 700 lb. ft. of torque available from 1200 to 1600."

Also, 8 speed manual!

Yep. I think a ridgeline-ey vehicle makes a lot of sense for the midsize market. Let the full-size trucks be trucky. I suspect it will take over eventually, but it will take time.

I also drove a Ridgeline this weekend. It was pretty much what I expected. It was like driving a giant el camino. It was both really neat and really boring at the same time.
