Don't forget the Cayenne V6 was offered in a stick in the second generation.

I thought of the R. There's a high mileage one for sale in my neighborhood.

And, yes, that's the Cayenne I was thinking of.

I'd like to be under $10k, but I'd stretch that if it makes sense.

Mind you, since what I'm after really hasn't been made for a while, that doesn't seem like too much of a problem.

Lots of Subarus based upon the auto tempest results for your spec.

This A4 is probably too nice and expensive but pretty sweet.

Golf Alltrack or Sportwagon would be nice but they all seem to be over $15k

An old A4 is solidly in "fuck no" territory. :)

I should note that the criteria for this is not too annoying to drive and more comfortable than the E90 on the highway. So small wagons really don't qualify. Nor does, say, any Subaru.

An old x5 manual is sadly, also, f*** no. I test drove one ages ago. The whole gearing/shifting etc felt all wrong. Stump puller first. Maybe you could change the ratios or the final drive.

This is my suggestion

Well not that specific one, but a '09-'10 e83 X3 manual. I'm really impressed with how old school bmw ours feels. Rides much better than my E90 LCI did. No crashiness at all. Decent size, updated n52 engine, etx.
